An old song MAKE BELIEVE came into my head the other day. Sometimes I forget songs. I’ve been keeping a LIST OF SONGS document on my cpu now to keep track! I wrote MAKE BELIEVE a few years ago right after I wrote GIVE IT BACK. It’s a song that acknowledges the imaginary world I find myself in at times. I sometimes get caught up in this world and come back to a frightening reality. You can hear an acoustic version of it on my YOUTUBE page. Today I’ll put down basic tracks. Check out this MYSPACE page to listen!

I also wanted to mention today info about a benefit for friend and awesome songwriter Kelly Buchanan. We went to Berklee together. A few months back she was injured playing hockey and suffered traumatic brain injury. She is on my list of ALBUM’S THAT I’M OBSESSING OVER. Check her out on KELLY BUCHANAN’S MYSPACE. The benefit for her will be held in New York at the Knitting Factory on Sept. 10 at 7pm.

Hey, welcome to my first blog post! In case you haven’t heard, I just relocated to Austin, TX. It’s been good times out here working away on my upcoming album BLACK HEART, which is expected to come out next Cinco De Mayo. Keep checkin the website because I will be frequently posting updates and new tracks that you can listen to!

This time around, I decided that I am going to take the DIY approach and record this all myself. I’ve been polishing my drum playing and picking up all types of instruments I can find. So far I’ve started recording the basic tracks such as acoustic guitars, rhythm guitars, drums, and scratch vocals. I’ve also been writing new material and revisiting some of my B-SIDES. Today, I’ll be working on the basic tracks for the song GIVE IT BACK–a song I wrote about three years ago but decided not to put on my last album, IT’S MY TRAGEDY.

I have been fooling with this song for a while now–I used to perform it with my band. It was punky. When I got back into doing solo gigs, another version developed–I like it much better. I felt like it had more of an impact on my audience, since the vocals and lyrics came out stronger, because they weren’t competing as much with the instrumentation. Now that I have been experimenting on the piano, the song has gone to a whole new level. I think it brings out a different side to the lyrics–a more aching and haunting side. Let’s see how this recording comes out. This song inspired the idea to perform songs in a different and experimental way. I will be sharing a podcast, SECOND SUNDAY, once a month exploring different combinations of sound. The first episode will air on Sept 14, 2008 and will feature piano/vocal arrangements.

In the meantime, I’ll be posting my tracks in the making on this myspace page, CLICK HERE. Check them out, and let me know what you think!

I also want to include in every post what albums I’m listening to and that are inspiring me at the moment.

Hai Paura Del Buio – AFTERHOURS
