Back in Austin…NYC was so much fun!

I had a great time hanging out in Alphabet City and hitting the clubs on Avenue A. It was like the good old times when I lived there. There are so many great sounds coming out of NYC, and it’s always great to see my buds. The highlight of my trip was meeting Matt Pinfield at the CMJ music conference. He spun my song Warriors….it was so exciting!

Before heading out to New York, I was able to catch some shows at Austin City Limits. It rained most of the festival and it got very muddy and gross in the field. I was still able to enjoy some pretty great music though. At the top of my list was of course…..the Dead Weather. Jack White playing drums while singing was something to be heard. He is such a well rounded musician and writer. I also was able to catch Passion Pit, Girl Talk, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to name a few. Despite the horrible weather it was a good time!

I have been adding more dates to the tour! Check out the dates on the Shows page of my web site (link below). Bassist Colleen Bonner and drummer Marty Mack will be joining me. I have also been recording again and have started working on a new album. More details on that next time!

If you live in Austin, come check out our show on December 16th at the Red Eyed Fly.

This month I decided to make my own T-shirts! Well that is with a little help from my friends. We made our own screens and we are now ready to custom print t-shirts! That’s right! You get to select your shirt and ink color! We posted some pictures on the STORE page to take a look at!

October is around the corner and I have an exciting month ahead of me. I will start things of with Austin City Limits next weekend. I am looking forward to hearing and meeting so many awesome bands. At the top of my list I have to say is The Dead Weather, Jack White’s newest project. I just love that man’s music, and last year his band the Raconteurs were amazing! I’ll be sure to write about it next time! After ACL, I’ll be heading out to New York City for CMJ. I love NYC and all the awesome people I have met out there. I look forward to the conference and being on the east coast! Then, I’ll be back in Austin for the GoGirls Music Fest on October 27th! Please check out the SHOWS page to keep up with where I am performing.

Yes…..I am almost done with the production of BLACK HEART!  I’ll be driving to North Carolina in June to meet with mixing engineer, John Plymale.  John mixed my last record, IT’S MY TRAGEDY, and has also worked with artists such has Superchunk, Squirrel Nut-Zippers, and Alejandro Escovedo to name a few.  This album will have 10 new songs on it….unless I slash one out last minute. (ha!)    The first three songs are GIVE OR TAKE, BLACK HEART, and QUITTER.   GIVE OR TAKE is a song I casually wrote about a dear friend who just seemed to tick me off one day :)   Well at least that’s where the idea came from….then the rest just exploded out of me coming from many different directions.  I wrote the song BLACK HEART a few years back…it was the song that told me…”start working on a new album!”.    In 2004, I lost my mother in a car crash and had ended a major relationship in my life.   It was a low blow for me.  I felt homeless.  Lost.  Distraught.  This song deals with opening up my heart again….giving and recieving love.   QUITTER is a very evil song.  I am truley a bitch in this song.  My ego meets my temper.  This song deals with ex-bandmates, lovers, ex-anyones in my life that didn’t believe in me, my music, and were just backstabbers!   Yes thats dark….but you’ll be surprised where the album ends up!

So, for this month’s episode of SECOND SUNDAY I posted a few live bootleg recordings from last year. I hope you can enjoy…the sound was recorded on a camcorder that is…let’s say a little run down from the road. Through the static though, I think you will be able to hear my live sound in full intensity. These recordings are all of solo shows. I am super amped to tour in 2009. I will be playing mostly on the west coast, but will also make my return to NYC and Miami. You can listen or download the podcast for free on http://www.whitewidowmusic.com. Just go to the music page for all the info.

Also, be sure to drop me a line on myspace. I am taking requests for which cities to hit on this next tour!

Here’s a list of some albums I’ve been obsessing over:
Beck – Sea Change (once again!)
Kate Bush – The Red Shoes
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Show Your Bones

This week has been a trip!  I have been writing away.  As soon as I finish a song, I start a new one.  I guess I can say I am inspired!  I think also I have allowed myself to write bad songs!  I need to allow all my songs to find their way out….good or bad.  Everything today seems so perfect in the recording studio.  Sometimes I catch myself lining everything up perfectly while I am putting together tracks.  This week I limited myself to two tracks.  What I captured was live pure energy.  A few years ago, a good friend of mine gave me CDS of various Stevie Nicks demos.  These demos are so raw….I listen and get so wrapped up her emotions that all the stactic disappears.  It’s the song, her energy, no other bullshit.  That’s the real deal….you can’t re-create that.  That moment was captured on tape.  Being how extreme I am ….I want my upcoming album, BLACK HEART to do that as well.

ALBUMS I AM OBSESSION OVER:

Wild Heart – Stevie Nicks

Dessert Sessions (PJ Harvey)

One of my favorite artists has to be Lindsey Buckingham. I have been to at least 50 of his concerts. A few years ago I covered his song GO INSANE on my album NO WOOD TO KNOCK ON. The song was posted on the Fleetwood Mac web site FM LEGACY (CLICK HERE).

It went on to appear on the CBS Daytime TV Show, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, by accident. (They were supposed to air another song from the NO WOOD TO KNOCK ON album) If you are a Buckingham fan or Fleetwood Mac fan, please listen to my tribute. There is also a song on the NO WOOD TO KNOCK ON album called LINDSEY.

You can listen and download my version of GO INSANE for FREE here

A few weeks ago I decided to cover songs for my new PODCAST SECOND SUNDAY.

I performed a new version of GO INSANE, along with a BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, and BEASTIE BOYS song.

Please let me know what you think!

An old song MAKE BELIEVE came into my head the other day. Sometimes I forget songs. I’ve been keeping a LIST OF SONGS document on my cpu now to keep track! I wrote MAKE BELIEVE a few years ago right after I wrote GIVE IT BACK. It’s a song that acknowledges the imaginary world I find myself in at times. I sometimes get caught up in this world and come back to a frightening reality. You can hear an acoustic version of it on my YOUTUBE page. Today I’ll put down basic tracks. Check out this MYSPACE page to listen!

I also wanted to mention today info about a benefit for friend and awesome songwriter Kelly Buchanan. We went to Berklee together. A few months back she was injured playing hockey and suffered traumatic brain injury. She is on my list of ALBUM’S THAT I’M OBSESSING OVER. Check her out on KELLY BUCHANAN’S MYSPACE. The benefit for her will be held in New York at the Knitting Factory on Sept. 10 at 7pm.

Tango In The Night – Fleetwood Mac (still)
